Does Thailand Accept an Apostille?

Not yet. The Apostille Convention enters into force for Thailand on February 28, 2027. Until then, the Royal Thai Embassy does not accept apostilles and requires the older legalization chain for U.S. documents.

How to Prepare Documents for Thailand Before February 28, 2027

  1. State authentication. State-issued documents, such as birth and marriage certificates, are first authenticated by the Secretary of State where they were issued. Federal documents such as an FBI check skip this step.
  2. U.S. Department of State authentication. The document then receives the U.S. Department of State seal.
  3. Royal Thai Embassy or consulate legalization. Thailand legalizes the authenticated document. The embassy has said it does not accept apostilles until the Convention takes effect.

After February 28, 2027, an apostille is expected to replace the legalization step for public documents. Call (503) 212-0678 and we will tell you which steps we can handle for your timeline.

Documents People Apostille for Thailand

  • Teaching credentials and work permits
  • Marriage and family records
  • Business and company documents
  • Retirement and long-stay visa paperwork

Most requests follow one of two routes. Federal documents, such as an FBI Identity History Summary, are handled by the U.S. Department of State through our FBI apostille service. State-issued documents, such as birth, marriage, and death certificates, are handled by the Secretary of State where they were issued. We process Oregon documents and other states for $195 (New York is $350 for the first document and $65 for each additional), listed in our apostille by document guide.

Translation for Thailand Documents

Thai offices may require a certified Thai translation depending on the document and the office.

How to Get Your Documents Ready for Thailand

  1. Confirm what the receiving office needs. Ask the employer, consulate, or agency in Thailand which records they want, how recent they must be, and whether translation is required.
  2. Get the right original. For vital records, order a certified copy from the issuing state or county. For a background check, request your FBI Identity History Summary.
  3. We prepare the authentication steps. We help with the state and U.S. Department of State steps that come before Thai legalization.
  4. We arrange translation. After the apostille, we arrange certified Thai translation when your documents need it.
  5. Send it to Thailand. We return the finished set to you, ready to submit.
