The most common U.S. passport photo requirement. Head must be between 1–1⅜ inches from chin to top.

No patterns, shadows, or colored backgrounds accepted.

As of 2016, glasses are no longer permitted in U.S. passport photos.

Both eyes must be open and clearly visible. Neutral expression preferred.

What to Wear & Bring
Wear everyday clothing
Avoid white or very light tops they can blend with the white background. Any other color works well.
Remove glasses before arriving
Glasses are not permitted in U.S. passport photos. Contacts are fine.
Natural hair and makeup
Style your hair as you normally would. No heavy filters or dramatic changes, the photo must look like your everyday appearance.
For infants, bring a white sheet
Lay a white sheet on a flat surface. A parent can hold the infant below the frame. We guide you through the process.
Bring your passport application (optional)

Can I walk in for passport photos?
Yes. Walk-ins are welcome at all three PDX Fingerprinting locations Hillsboro, Lake Oswego, and Beaverton. No appointment is needed. Photos are taken and printed on-site in minutes.
Are your passport photos accepted by the U.S. State Department?
Yes. PDX Fingerprinting passport photos meet all U.S. Department of State ICAO requirements correct 2×2 inch dimensions, white background, proper head positioning, no glasses, and appropriate lighting. Our photos are accepted for all U.S. passport applications and renewals.
Do you photograph infants for passport photos?
Yes. Infants need their own passport and must have their eyes open and facing forward in the photo. A parent may hold the infant on a white sheet below the camera frame we guide you through the positioning process step by step. Bring a white sheet or blanket for infant sessions.
Do you take visa photos for other countries?
Yes. Visa photo specifications vary by destination country and visa type. Bring your visa application form or tell us your destination when you arrive. We confirm the correct format and specifications for your specific visa.
How many passport photos do I get?
U.S. passport applications typically require two identical photos. PDX Fingerprinting provides the quantity required for your application. Ask our team how many photos you need for your specific application type.
Can I use a passport photo taken on my phone?
The U.S. State Department accepts digitally submitted photos for online passport renewals, but requires specific technical specifications (JPEG, correct resolution, correct dimensions). For in-person applications and most USCIS applications, printed photos are required. PDX Fingerprinting provides professionally printed, compliant photos for all application types.
How do I know my passport photo will be accepted?
PDX Fingerprinting uses professional photography equipment and follows all U.S. State Department and USCIS specifications. Our team checks each photo for compliance before printing correct dimensions, white background, head positioning, and lighting. In the rare event a photo is rejected, bring your rejection notice back and we will retake at no charge.
Do you take photos for green card and USCIS applications?
Yes. PDX Fingerprinting provides USCIS-compliant photos for green card applications (I-485), employment authorization documents (I-765), naturalization applications (N-400), and all other USCIS forms requiring photos. Our photos meet all USCIS specifications.
Are glasses allowed in passport photos?
No. As of November 2016, the U.S. State Department no longer accepts passport photos with glasses even prescription glasses. Please remove your glasses before your passport photo session. Contact lenses are permitted.
